Mike Pieciak to Seek a Second Term as Vermont State Treasurer

Montpelier, VT – Treasurer Mike Pieciak announced today that he will run for a second term as Vermont State Treasurer.

“It is an honor to serve as State Treasurer, and I hope Vermonters will again put their trust in me for another term,” Pieciak said. “I ran for State Treasurer because I care deeply about the future of our state, and our success begins and ends with the economic strength of every Vermonter. I am proud that we have continued building on the work of my predecessor, Beth Pearce.”

Pieciak won his first term with 66% of the vote following former Treasurer Beth Pearce’s retirement in 2022. He and Beth Pearce will join supporters on Thursday evening at 5pm for a reelection kick-off event at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier.

Pieciak’s reelection campaign announced it raised over $150,000 during the 2024 election cycle with donations from Vermonters in all 14 counties.

“During my last campaign, I visited every single town in our state and heard from thousands of Vermonters about the issues that mattered most to them,” Pieciak said. “The message was loud and clear: people need affordable housing, smart climate investments, and a better deal for the Vermont worker. If reelected, I will continue to make progress on these goals and grow the middle class.”

Highlights from Treasurer Pieciak’s first term include:

  • Prioritizing new housing construction by leveraging the State’s strong balance sheet to commit up to $100 million in low-interest loans to build hundreds of new homes. To date, Pieciak has invested over $60 million to help construct over 800 new homes in 12 communities across Vermont through the ‘10% in Vermont’ program.

  • Successfully passing Vermont Saves, a publicly administered retirement savings program that will expand retirement account access to over 80,000 working Vermonters.

  • Responding to the July 2023 floods by providing $15 million in flood relief to help rebuild flood-impacted communities.

  • Proposing innovative ‘Baby Bonds’ legislation to grow Vermont’s economy, fight rural poverty, and address our demographic crisis.

  • Working on a bi-partisan Climate Resilience Implementation Strategy to better prepare Vermont communities for a changing climate.

  • Advocating for fully funding our public pension obligations and fully implementing the pension reform legislation passed in 2022 to ensure dignified retirements for tens of thousands of public sector workers.

  • Establishing two pilot projects to more easily reunite Vermonters with their missing money, returning millions of dollars in unclaimed property to Vermonters.

  • Supporting financial literacy initiatives, including a partnership with the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence to provide financial literacy training and emergency grants to survivors of domestic abuse.

In his second term, Treasurer Pieciak will work to:

  • Continue investing in new housing through the ‘10% in Vermont’ local investment program to make housing more affordable and help those experiencing homelessness.

  • Successfully launch the Vermont Saves public retirement program to provide retirement access to tens of thousands of working Vermonters.

  • Establish a Vermont Baby Bonds pilot program to make life-changing investments and address intergenerational poverty, rural economic development, and the retention of young people in our state.

  • Establish a new credit facility to provide low-cost capital for green energy production, weatherization, electrification, and resiliency.

  • Establish a Climate Finance Roundtable to help facilitate awareness and partnerships between the public and private sectors to take full advantage of hundreds of millions of dollars available for climate action made available through the Inflation Reduction Act.

  • Implement the Climate Resilience Implementation Strategy to better protect Vermont communities from the impacts of climate change.

Treasurer Pieciak also announced the hiring of Peter Trombley as campaign manager. Peter is from Shelburne, Vermont, and previously worked on Congresswoman Becca Balint’s 2022 campaign for Congress and served in her D.C. office.
